John R. Boyce

NBVME Executive Director

Dr. John R. Boyce is a native of Detroit, Michigan and a 1969 graduate of Detroit's Cass Technical High School. He received his DVM degree from Michigan State University in 1974. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps, where he was stationed for two years at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, DC. After leaving the Army, he did graduate work at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he received his PhD degree in microbiology. Dr. Boyce served on the faculty of the School of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana from 1980-87. In 1987, he joined the staff of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in Schaumburg, Illinois, as Assistant Director of Scientific Activities. One of his responsibilities at the AVMA was serving as staff consultant to the National Board Examination Committee (NBEC). When the NBEC became an independent organization in 1995, Dr. Boyce left the AVMA to serve as Executive Director of the NBEC. Dr. Boyce and the NBEC office moved to Bismarck, North Dakota in 1997. Dr. Boyce also serves as Executive Secretary of the North Dakota Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.

Dr. Boyce and his wife Susan have three adult children.
